This time I could practice Kogusa no Shoka (small-sized Shoka style), which I’ve been inwardly eager to do since introduced during this year’s annual lecture in July.
The material used was Japanese toad lily, one of my favorites because of its unique flower shape.
In order to arrange compactly to optimally show the loveliness, the height of Shin was only slightly higher than that of the vase, and less branches (Shin, Ushiro ashirai, Mae ashirai, Soe, Tai, in total just five) were used for the best balance.
A bit yellow faded leaves helped to add autumnal atmosphere to the work.
Grateful to Mori Sensei for providing such an enjoyable lesson.
