名残の木瓜

先日の生花一種いけでは、他の方は全員啓翁桜を選ばれた中、私だけ木瓜でお稽古をしました。

三月ともなると日本人は桜のことでそわそわします(今年の開花はいつ？満開はいつ？など)。

教室も温かな日差しと桜の花の薄いピンクで、春の雰囲気に満ちていました。
ただ私だけはトゲだらけの木瓜の枝を撓めるのに四苦八苦。

木瓜のコロンとした可愛らしい花姿と独特のピンクがかったオレンジ色がお気に入りで、今季最後のお稽古の機会を逃したくなかったのです。

The other day I practiced Shoka Isshuike with Japanese quince, while all the other selected Prunus (Keioh Zakura) to practice.
We Japanese make a fuss about cherry trees in March, wondering when they will start blooming or in full bloom, …
The classroom was full of cherry blossoms in pale pink and warm with soft spring sunshine.
But I was struggling with quince’s thorny branches to make curvatures.  I just didn’t want to miss the last opportunity to practice with this woody material, as its lovely roundish flower in pinkish orange hue is my particular favorite.
Mori Sensei, thank you for allowing me to practice with Japanese quince, although I was the only one who selected it.
Look forward to practicing with it again in the next winter.
